It’s that time of the year again. You know, the time where I reflect on my baby’s short time on this earth, do a little ugly cry, and then get myself together again long enough to hold on to my girl for just a little bit longer today. You see, it’s my middle daughter’s fourth birthday today. If you know this girl, you know exactly why she holds a special place in my heart. She’s tiny but fierce, tender yet wild, loyal and a free spirit, all at the same time.
She started her short life on this earth as a mommy’s girl, which is how she came to be nicknamed as my shadow by my hubby. Ironically enough, it was the same man who nicknamed her whom her heart belongs to now. Yup, she’s 100 percent daddy’s girl (aren’t all little girls?). She’s got him wrapped around her finger and he’s got her following his every move and mimicking his sense of humor. Daddy’s twin is her new nickname.
Looking at her now, all I see is that little calm baby who was always staring up at me in wonderment. Her big eyes examining mine while nursing and all I could think was how blessed am I? When I ponder about the future, I can’t help but think how blessed the people who will call her “sister”, “friend”, “wife”, “mother”, or “teacher” will be to have her as part of their life.
I wish I could give this little girl everything, but I know we’ve achieved the most important things: LOVE, a sense of SAFETY, FAITH, the importance of FAMILY, LAUGHTER, KINDNESS, RESPECT, VULNERABILITY & CONFIDENCE to be who she is! I have witnessed the evidence of these characteristics in her with my own eyes and all I can say is all glory to God for his grace! We are so incredibly blessed with you, Rachael!! Happy fourth birthday, my life <3
I love you all the way to the milky way, my love
Ain’t nothing better than watching you be you.
